Training Resources and Opportunities

The Tacoma Center YMCA Triathlon Training Program is directed by Monique Lance who is also South Sound Triathletes Athlete Development Direcotor. Many South Sound Triathlete members are also involved in this program to increase group training opportunities during the week and many events are coordinated between the two groups. The Triathlon Training Program is based at the Tacoma Center YMCA. Group training sessions take place on Tuesday evening 5:30-7:30 PM and Thursday morning 5:30-7:30 AM. Training sessions vary each week and throughout the year and communication is maintained with weekly emails via an email list serve. The program is year-round and is designed for all ability levels. During the fall and winter, workouts are held indoors, utilizing the swimming pool, indoor cycling bikes, strength training equipment, and performing running drills and plyometrics on the UPS track. When spring and summer arrive, participants head outdoors to train with activities such as open water swims, track workouts, bike rides, and trail runs at Point Defiance Park. The training program also includes workshops and clinics where professionals from our community speak on topics such as creating a triathlon training plan, nutrition and fueling, injury prevention, mental endurance and strength training. In October, participants recover from the racing season by playing ultimate frisbee, volleyball, bowling, water polo, yoga and pilates. For more information contact Monique Lance at 253.691.3409 or r_k_ling@hotmail.com.

We encourage new triathletes to attend our workshops and clinics as well as seek out books, magazines (Triathlete and Inside Triathlon) and online resources for more information. There are numerous books available on line and at local book stores.
